Four days and 240 miles later, the Naomi’s have arrived in Portland. The route we chose was one posted on bikely.com that took us along the west side of Mt. Rainier and the east side of Mt. St. Helens. Highly recommended if you enjoy minimal traffic, extraordinary views and serious elevation gain.
We’ve come to realize in just four days that I am going to be indebted to people all along the coast. We’ve been offered money, food, maps and directions and cannot stop without someone starting a conversation. I am glad Naomi A. is such the conversationalist because mostly I just want to run to the bathroom to apply a new layer of butt butter or stuff myself with carbs. We also rode about 15 miles with two wonderful women, Sara & Rebecca who are planning a cycling trip to Vietnam. Go! Go! Go!
Manna joins me in Portland tonight and we ride towards the coast in the morning.
Special for Jessica: We’ve eaten oatmeal with raisins & honey, tons of veggies, beans, corn, tortillas, also peanut-butter-honey-banana sandwiches, nuts, pasta, unexpected and unsuspecting insects, and 14 cliff bars. The large amount of cliff bars consumption has got to come to an end though. Those are not treating me well.
So far, there is nothing I would rather be doing.
